About the Program
Lightbox is an experiment on a binary interpretation of process.
It serves as a platform for users to play with the notion of
drawing as erasing and vice versa. In this way form cannot be
concieved, but arrived at.
Switching Between Modes
Lightbox contains two modes, light and dark, that elicit different
actions from its drawing tools. By clicking the
switch
on the left-hand menu, the user can easily toggle in between the two.
Drawing and Erasing
Clicking on the
draw square tool
allows the user to draw concrete blocks of form by clicking and dragging
on the drawing surface. On light mode, the user can create form. On dark
mode, the user can erase form.
Copying and Pasting
Clicking on the
paste square tool
allows the user to take selected parts of the drawing surface and
redraw them in different parts of drawing surface. Using the same
process of clicking and dragging the user can select a specific part of
the drawing. The user can then choose to move this selection around the
drawing surface. When satisfied with the selection's placement, clicking
on the save selection button will paste the selection onto the drawing.
Orienting the Canvas
To create more interesting form, the user can also flip the canvas
vertically and
horizontally.
In this way, the user can experiment with any accidental forms made
throughout the drawing process.
Starting Over
Selecting the
clear button
allows the user to clear the canvas completely to reset the drawing process.
Saving A Drawing
Selecting the
save button
allows the user to save the canvas as is into a separate png file.
