Americas Wildlife
The wildlife of the Americas comprises all naturally occurring animals, fungi and plants. With the Amazon Rainforest, which accounts for approximately one-tenth of all species in the world, The Americas are considered to have the greatest biodiversity. It has the most known species of plants, freshwater fish and mammals. The number of fungal species is unknown, but is huge.
Home to marsupials, monkeys and the world's largest rainforest. Three million years ago, the Isthmus of Panama formed, uniting North and South America and allowing animals including big cats, bears, coral snakes and condors to move in.
